Please follow the advice of your physician and the instructions given to you at the time of your pre-operative visit at Alabama Orthopaedic Center. The following instructions are given to everyone. If you are currently taking medication for other medical conditions, make sure you consult with your physician and his staff regarding the use of each medicine before and after the procedure.
General Instructions Before Surgery
- We will need a copy of your insurance cards and photo identification. Payment arrangements may be made with the billing department. Leave all valuables at home.
- If your procedure is scheduled in the morning, do not eat or drink anything after midnight. Do not chew gum, eat a mint, or smoke.
- Wear comfortable clothing. A button-down shirt is preferred.
- If you are having outpatient surgery, make sure to arrange for someone to drive you home.
- You may want to bring pillows and a blanket for your trip home.
- If you suspect a fever, cold, or any other health related problem, please notify the physician. If you need to cancel the procedure, please call the office.
- If you are on blood thinners (aspirin, Coumadin, etc...) you may need to be off these medicaitons a few days prior to your procedure. Talk with your prescribing physcian and your surgeon about the need to stop these medications.
